Fall 2013 Limited Editions, Week Four

And what does this week have in store? A pair of old  favorites with new looks!

Almond

Almond

Almond

The description: Reminiscent of fresh-baked almond spritz cookies, this fragrance will lift your spirits and put you in mind of holiday baking! Homey and delicious.

I love almonds and almond-flavored things, and so it was a source of sadness for me that for pretty much the entirety of my 20s, I was allergic to them. Then, suddenly and as mysteriously as it appeared, the allergy vanished! But while it lingered, almond-scented things like this were great to have around to help assuage the cravings! Even now, though, I love a good, rich almond fragrance. It’s a fantastic addition to the fall/winter line, reminding us as it does so strongly of baked goods and tastiness.

Available here in soap, and here in other product lines.

Spellbound Woods

Spellbound Woods

Spellbound Woods

The description: These woods are lovely, dark and deep indeed! Amber, musk, vanilla, sandalwood, cedarwood, with just enough light notes to keep it from being too bottom-heavy a fragrance; this blend is absolutely incredible.

Imagine the richest, sweetest, most luscious vanilla you have ever smelled. Add in a hint of musk and an array of woodsy scents, sprinkle a hint of tantalizingly just-out-of-identifiable-range lighter notes across the top (citrus? Maybe . . . ), and you might have some idea of what this smells like. It is sensuous and spectacular, and not to be missed for anyone who enjoys the darker end of the scent profile range.

Available here in soap, with other product lines available here.

And what are we preparing to bid farewell to next Wdenesday? Melon Spritzer and Sunflowers. Get ’em while they’re here!

Variation-Enabled Listings

The latest in a series of streamlining efforts, attempting to make it easier to browse the Etsy store: Variations for Limited Edition lotions, shower gels, and many other products! This means you can see the whole current lineup of limited edition scents for these products in one convenient listing, instead of having to browse all over the store.  This will also make it more likely that new limited editions will actually appear in all of these products, as well.

There is one down side: The variations do not show up in search. Which means if you search the shop for, say, “rose lotion” right now, you won’t get any results, despite there being a Rose Garden Hand & Body Cream, a Rose Garden Whipped Body Butter, AND a Rose Garden Lotion Bar in the variation-sets for the respective products. So if you’re looking for a particular product and it doesn’t show up for you in search, you might take a look at the relevant Limited Edition listing and see if it’s there, just in case. I’m hoping Etsy will add the variations to the searchable fields soon, but in the mean time, we must muddle through with what we have.

Here’s the current Limited Edition lineup, available in all of the listed products (and the list is going to get longer over the next several weeks!):

Black Forest: What will you find in this version of the Black Forest? Chocolate and cherries and cream, oh my! It is delicious and decadent and delightful.

Egyptian Musk: This scent is deep, dark, and rich, musky with a touch of sensual florals and just the tiniest hint of powder. It is an incredibly compelling blend and a delight to all the senses.

Gardens by Moonlight: Lavender, rose, violet, musk; a dark and delectable blend of sensual and floral notes which is sure to satisfy.

Good Clean Dirt: Damp clay, piles of fallen leaves, fresh-turned soil: Comforting, earthy fragrances which make us feel closer to nature. A very subtle scent. Great for hunters, gardeners, nature-lovers, and kids who won’t take a bath because they’d rather smell like dirt!

Green Garden: This is a fresh green smelling, slightly spicy fragrance with notes of violet, jasmine, bitter orange, lemon, and a hint of musk.

Melon Spritzer: This is an absolutely delightful and delicious blend of astonishingly realistic melon scents with just a hint of fizz in the undertone. Incredibly summery!

Oil and Gold: Smells like a million bucks! The complex depth of the scent of Nag Champa creates a gorgeous contrast with the stunning simplicity of a black field with a tracery of gold on top.

Just Peachy: This isn’t your traditional peach; it’s softer, more rounded with some white floral notes and supporting softer tropical notes (think guava, mango and ripe papaya) thrown in to make a complex, sweet peachy dessert scent.

Plum Tea: Soft, delicate notes of delicious ripe plum intertwine with the enticing aroma of white tea (and just a hint of black), layered over hints of sweeter fruitiness and a touch of florals. Not too sweet, not too cloying – this scent is clean, fresh, and perfect for late summer and early autumn. Delightful!

Rose Garden: Like an English rose garden, heady and decadent, this fragrance is as romantic as they come.

Summer Fling: This berry-laden fragrance carries with it thoughts of long, sun-drenched summer afternoons with a bowl of fresh peaches, blackberries, and raspberries. Fresh summer fruit is fleeting, but this fragrance smells every bit as good in January as in June! Excellent whenever you feel like a piece of summertime.

Fall 2013 Limited Editions, Week Three

Another week, another pair of new soaps!

Good Clean Dirt

I have a long and not entirely uncheckered history with this soap. I have loved it since I first smelled it; one of my earliest memories is playing in my father’s pottery studio, and the earthy, dusty scent of this soap takes me right back there, sitting in the clay dust rolling out snakes from scraps at the age of three or four. So I really, really wanted to do it justice and make a good product from it. But it, alas, did not want to cooperate, and so I produced batch after batch of, well, ugly soap. I believe now, after years of trying off and on, I have finally made a bar of soap in this scent which looks like I wanted it to! I hope you all enjoy the scent as much as I do.

Available here and here.

Red Currant and Thyme

Red Currant & Thyme

Red Currant & Thyme

The description: A complex and utterly delicious blend of fruit and herbal notes, compelling and delightful.

The very first time I opened a bottle of this fragrance I was awestruck. I sat there sniffing the bottle for what seemed like an hour but was probably only two or three minutes, with a look on my face that led my husband to refer to it as “Amynip”. Soaps made from this scent sold like crazy, too, so it wasn’t just me who felt that way about it. And then one day, I went to re-order, and it WASN’T THERE. I was horrified. I immediately went into hoard-mode with the bit of the fragrance that I still had in stock, and have spent quite some time dithering over what to do with it. Well, here it is! A peacock swirl in gorgeous red and gold, as stunning in appearance as it is in aroma. Enjoy! SunSoap only, available while supplies last.

(Yes, I know there are other suppliers who offer a Red Currant and Thyme scent, and one of these days I’ll work up the courage to court disappointment and order one to sniff. I’ve even got my eye on a specific one, in fact, when I’m ready to give it a whirl. Maybe it’ll be every bit as awesome as the one I can’t get anymore, and then we can all rejoice!)

Available here and here.

This week’s short-timer: Green Garden. Spearmint Lavender would have been there, too, but it’s sold out already!

Photo-Post!

I know it’s been awfully quiet around here, and I swear SOMEDAY I’ll find both time and inspiration at once to write more of my science-of-soap posts. In the mean time, however, how about some pictures?

Some of these are just from the last couple of weeks and are destined to roll out in the next month or two, whereas some are from early summer and will be leaving the Limited Edition lineup soon.  There are many more new things in the pipeline, too, so keep watching for more updates!

Upcoming Shows

It may be only mid-August, but if I step outside right now I hear children in the playground at the school a block away, and so far as my mind is concerned, that means summer is over – and that, in turn, sets me thinking about fall craft shows!

Now, summer isn’t really over – the Lincoln Heights Village farmers market at Douglas and Oliver will be taking up my Wednesday mornings for many weeks to come. But even while that goes on, the craft fair season is going to be ramping up on the weekends! As always, you can find a calendar listing our forthcoming activities on the Find Us page here. Shows marked with a “**” are planned but not yet finalized, for one reason or another, so if you’re going to one of those shows and want to be sure you’ll see us there, you might want to check back a bit closer to the time to make sure we got the last few ducks in a row and will in fact be there.

The first non-farmers market show of this fall season will be on Sept. 7, the Vintage Girl Outdoor Market at Absolute Vintage Boutique – which currently shows on the calendar as not-finalized, but that’s just because I haven’t got the paperwork in yet (oops)! Still, if nothing goes wrong, we expect to be there, and would love to see you.

The other September show is Cider Days in Topeka, Sept. 21-22. We went to this show two years ago and are very excited about going back this year!

October is fully booked, as you can see from the calendar, and should be a lot of fun. I’ll post more about the October shows when they’re a bit less far off.

We’re still looking around for shows to fill up more weekends in November and December.  Have a crafty festival or show in your neck of the prairie at which you’d like to see Foam on the Range? Drop us a line and we’ll check it out!

Hope to see you at some of these shows!

Fall 2013 Limited Editions, Week Two

This week’s new Limited Editions are both newcomers to Foam on the Range!

Black Forest

Black Forest

Black Forest

The description: What will you find in this version of the Black Forest? Chocolate and cherries and cream, oh my! It is delicious and decadent and delightful, and quite frankly I had a hard time remembering not to lick the spoon when I was making it.

Inspired by and named after the popular dessert Black Forest Cake (Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte), this soap smells sweeter and richer than any I have ever made before. Absolutely delectable! Available here and here.

Oil and Gold

Oil and Gold

Oil and Gold

The description: Smells like a million bucks! The complex depth of the scent of Nag Champa creates a gorgeous contrast with the stunning simplicity of a black field with a tracery of gold on top.

I am very pleased with this soap. Sometimes I get carried away making soaps more and more elaborate, and while that’s a whole lot of fun and I don’t plan to stop doing it any time soon, it’s also good to remember there can be beauty in simplicity as well. Available here and here.

Both of this week’s Limited Editions are listed soap-only, rather than the entire lineup of products. However, if you really want a Black Forest Whipped Body Butter or an Oil and Gold Perfume Oil, or another variation, I would be happy to put one together for you!

And before I wrap this up, the two fragrances going away next Wednesday are: Lychee Red Tea and Pink Peony. Get ’em while they’re here!

Fall 2013 Limited Editions, Week One

I mentioned last week that our Limited Edition lineup was about to start its periodic changeover – and here it goes! I’m really excited about bringing out some new and exciting scents, and also bringing back some old favorites. There’ll be two new soaps (and assorted other products in matching fragrances) every week for the next several weeks. Good times!

This week is all about the old favorites, and man, I’ve really missed both of these since they last left the lineup.

Plum Tea

Plum Tea

The description: Soft, delicate notes of delicious ripe plum intertwine with the enticing aroma of white tea (and just a hint of black), layered over hints of sweeter fruitiness and a touch of florals. Not too sweet, not too cloying – this scent is clean, fresh, and perfect for late summer and early autumn. Delightful!

This fragrance is very broad in its appeal, and is particularly well-suited to lotion and perfume, though certainly no slouch in soaps. Supply of this scent is somewhat limited, so if it strikes your fancy, don’t wait too long! Available here and here.

Egyptian Musk

Egyptian Musk (2)

The description: This scent is deep, dark, and rich, musky with a touch of sensual florals and just the tiniest hint of powder. It is an incredibly compelling blend and a delight to all the senses.

Another scent I had been very sorry to see go last time!  I especially love using the Egyptian Musk scented bath bombs; the clouds of fragrant steam go very well with the decadence of this fragrance. It is also a wonderful perfume/spray scent! Available here and here.

And that’s it for this week’s additions! Next week there’ll be two brand-new scents – and Sweet Pea will retire, likely to return next spring. (Ordinarily there’d be two dropping out to match the two new ones, but the other one slated for withdrawal next week is all sold out already!)
